About Narendra Modi

Narendra Modi (born 17 September, 1950) is the 14th and current Chief Minister of the state Gujarat. He is a member of Bharatiya Janata Party and has led the party to a record three consecutive electoral victories in Gujarat.

Narendra Modi was born in Vadnagar in Mehsana district of Gujarat to a family of grocers. At the age of eighteen he abandoned his home and set off for Himalaya to become a sanyasi. Modi had completed his schooling in Vadnagar. According to his Sanskrit teacher he was always an average student but a keen debater. He returned after two years and started working in the staff canteen of GSRTC. He was there till he became the full time propagandist of RSS. Modi completed his first level training of RSS from Nagpur. Modi was offered the charge of Sangh’s student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarti Parishad in Gujarat. Modi was not much interested in the Sangh’s protocol. He was an efficient and dutiful organizer. During his years in RSS he came in touch with Vasant Gajendragadkar and Nathalal Jaghda leaders of Jan Sangh’s, who later founded BJP’s Gujarat state unit.

Narendra Modi has been the member of RSS since his childhood he was interested in politics. He has earned the master degree in political science. In 1998 he was chosen to direct the election campaign in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh by L.K Advani, the leader of BJP.

He became the Chief Minister of Gujarat for the first time in October 2001, promoted to office at the time when his predecessor Kesubhai Patel had resigned due to the defeat of BJP in the by election. On 18th September, 2012 he became the longest serving Chief Minister in Gujarat’s history. He had been in power for 4000 days continuously.
