Vijay Bahuguna: Chief Minister (CM) of Uttarakhand
Vijay Bahuguna, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, is son of Late Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna who was a freedom fighter and eminent politician in India. Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna was also former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Vijay Bahuguna is a member of the 15th Lok Sabha of India. He was also a member of the 14th Lok Sabha.He is first ex-High Court judge to become chief minister of a state.
He represented the Tehri Garhwal Lok Sabha constituency of Uttarakhand and is a member of the Indian National Congress political party.
He was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand on March 13, 2012.
Vijay Bahuguna did his bachelors Arts and then LLB from Allahabad University in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. He then started working as an advocate in the Allahabad High Court in Allahabad. He later became a Judge of the Allahabad High Court, later transferring to become a judge of the Bombay High Court. It is said that his desire to join public life led to his resignation from High Court in 1998. Though it is largely believed that he gave up his judgeship due to corruption charges against him and possible impeachment for the same. The Bombay High Court Bar Association had passed a resolution against him and decided to boycott his court due to these charges. He also faced corruption charges as Judge of Allahabad high Court.
