About MLA of India

A Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) is a representative elected by the voters of a constituency to the legislative assembly of State. They are part of the State Government System.


A Person should be a citizen of India and should be more than 30 years of age as per the Indian Constitution to be a MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly).


The term of the MLA is 5 years. But it may be discontinued earlier on the request of Chief Minister of States by the Governor.


MLAs have power to make laws on following entities:
Agriculture, Irrigation, Police, Prisons, Local Governments, Public, Health, Pilgrimages, Burial Grounds, Education, Marriage, Divorce, Forests, Protection of wild animals and Birds
They have power in electing the president of Country.
